nostalgia part 2

i wonder if any of you folks remember this toy, this is the toy car my parent bought for me 10years++ for me, it is shown in the cartoon "MASK", and this truck is called "Jackhammer", is the bad guy.
this toy was unearth when my parent just shifted shouse and i was like found some treasure, now it has become my boy's toy...
cool, 1 toy went through an decade plus and it has become a toy for myself previously and now for my boy, interesting...

it's TGIF!!

finally, i have completed the work my boss have given me... time really flies, it is a busy week for me and today is already friday.

already have some plans for the weekend, hopefully can make it for all the plans.

suppose to go msia on saturday, but somehow, there are rumours about riot happening in JB area, so now my plan KIV until further notice from my friends. don't want to get caught in such situation when you are only a foreigner in a foreign land.

i don't know how you folks spend your weekend, but for myself, i need to plan it very carefully as i have 2 kids that need attention and someone to look after.

guess i will stop here, eyes already getting tired, from all the typing and staring at the big bulky monitor (ya, no flat screen for me here).

see ya.

my daughter

received a msg from a secondary sch mate that his wife have just gave birth to a baby girl last friday, so yesterday, brough my wife and my 2 kids down to visit him, as both myself and my wife know his wife personally as a friend too. Congrats to you bro! he is my friend for over this 15years.

after visiting his family and back home yesterday night, while lying on the bed going to sleep, i suddenly thought of my baby girl. the chubby little girl you see in my previous blog is my daughter which myself and my wife nearly lost her during my wife 5mth prengnancy (it is still a secret until now)

i can still remembered, last year sometimes in april/may, while working, i got a panic call from my wife that she is bleeding, non-stop. so immediately i tell my boss i need to leave urgently and rush my way back home. i was riding my 135cc bike like a madman, it would defintely stop by any traffic police if they see me, but i don't care anything too much now, only concerns of the safety of my wife and my unborn child.

reach home, my wife was lying on the bed, so immediately i brough her to hospital, and trying to calm her down along the way, while driving like a mad man again... when we reach hospital, she was admitted to a observation room by a nurse. what the nurse can say is, if bleeding don't stop, they will get a doctor to examine her later. so at the meantime, i accompany my wife.

we were in the room for don't know how many hours (can't remember) but i know i was damn hungry as it was way past the dinner time. and the nurses only come in once awhile to take a look and that's it...

i was praying silently hopefully my unborn child would be safe and sound and also the safety of my wife and very worried, but infront of my wife, i just pretend to be calm and told my wife it will be fine, our baby girl will be too.

it was sometime past midnight i guess, the bleeding seem to slow down and have stop, quickly get a nurse to check again. so after the nurse get a green light from the doc, we are allow to leave, and told us, if it bleed again, we will need to come back hospital.

we have called our gynae the next day as she is the doc who help to deliver our boy, so we arrange to for my wife to be examine by her, she say it should be fine and we should go back to hospital if this happen again.

after this incident, i have been really praying silently all these days until the little girl was born, thank God, my daughter was safe until delivery and are in good health. i believe that my little girl will have good luck as the chinese got a saying "you will have good luck after near death incident". hope she will be well and safe for the rest of her life.

todak hunting, the "Singapore Marlin" we call it

alright, this is the todak which i have mentioned in my previous blog in "halfbeak post". ok, to learn how to get this long slender fish, is slightly more tricky than the smaller halfbeak, as the todak could be meausred up to 1metre+, weight more than 2kg, and with it's long beak and all the sharp teeth, it could break your line easily.
for those less wary, and less intelligent todak, this is how you can catch them, rig up exactly the setup as catching the halfbeak, but ya will need slightly thicker line, say 10lbs-12lbs leader, and for main line, ya can use 6-8lbs for maximum fighing.
one of the best bait for them is live tamban, ya can get live tamban either by casting net, or jig for them, kept them in a live well immediately as they die easily out of water. use a size 6 or so hook, hook the live tamban on the back, near to the tail and when ya see todak (the way ya spot the halfbeak), cast it right infront of them!
the scenrio, which i seen with my own eyes before
those less intelligent todak will dart like an arrow toward the baitfish, and pin it under it's spikey teeth, perpendicular to its body. now prepare for the todak to darr through the water! open up the bail arm and see the line peels!! the run could easily take out 50m or more from ya spool, so prepare for it.
ok, when the line stop peeling, ya can wait awhile longer, sometimes when you see it jumps, meaning it has gut hook itself while swallowing the fish. if it still didn'y jump, nevermind, close the bail arm, tighten the slack line, give a give strike, and high chance, you will see it jump now.
with the line in its sharp teeth, it is always good to fight the line gently, do not pump in the fish like ya fighting the giant grouper. just do it with ease, set to light drag and allow it to peel the line with tension/pressure, to tire the fish more, before reeling in the surface feeder.
once again, this was taught by Mr Desmond again, he is the todak/halfbeak expert, thanks.

nostalgia part 1

while i was having my regular breakfast at the kopi shop along balestier road, i saw this bike came riding in, onto the pavement walkway, ridden by a indian uncle.

i was kinda stun to se this bike on the street again, it is the 3 pokes rims model, instead of the other yamaha TZE125 with the spokey rim. this model was the much sough after TZR as compared to the spokey rim model.

the engine was quiet, and much of the parts on the bike was pretty stock with OEM exhaust, muffler, tank, side mirror, except the paint job. i keep looking at the bike while seping my kopi-o.

memory start to flow back into my mind, i remember when i just started riding back in 1992, this bike was considered the fastest 2B bike (except yamaha SDR200) which are capable to achieve top speed of 160km/h. it just so happen that one of my classmate was riding one, and i always envy him when both of us was riding back home from Macpherson to jurong, he would always pull away from me when his yamaha YPVS (yamaha power valve system) activated.

my then the honda raider 135cc, was only capable to hit top at 135km/h...

lastly, i'm still amaze to see a well maintained yamaha tzr rooming around the street of singapore, and it should be around more than 20years...

nostalgia

i was bored this weekend, no one to help to look after the kids, i have to stay home to look after them.
so while both kids are sleeping, i surf net. while going through some website, accidentally saw this "CAMEL" ciggy picture (by the way, i do not promote smoking nor i'm a smoker) and it just sparks my memory way back to 1991-1992 when USA still have the CAMEL SUPERCROSS series, so after doing some search, i found this advertisement on the internet (Free Mug for every 3 ciggy pack purchased)
i do not know if you folks know what is a supercross but this is what got me into riding motorcycle, so up till date since i got my motorcycle license 92, i have been riding for the past 15years or so.
still vividly remember those SX riders like damon bradshaw, steve lamson, jeff staton, jeff matasevich (aka chicken), doug henry still in in the 125 class, jeremy mcgrath starting to show his speed in the 250class, etc..
perhap to those non-biker, to know more about supercross, or even motocross, you can click here ---> http://www.supercross.com/ or http://www.motocross.com/
i'm still BORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

the toy fight between the kids

the bro have got a new toy we bought for him yesterday night, with his sis learning to stand now, she is able to crawl toward where she want and stand up beside her bro...
1st photo - bro had the toy infront of him, but was looking elsewhere when his sis is aiming his toy
2nd photo - bro start to meddle with his toy with sis looking curiously at it
3rd photo - with a swift snatch action, sis snatch the mickey mouse toy away from his bro without any warning
last photo - bro snatch it back, "scream:" mei mei, that is my toy, not yours!" sis also didn't give up, stretch out her arm and try to snatch back the toy
the episode just happen this morning, when i'm still hafl awake while both kids have woke up about half hour earlier.

another sunset view

after a long hot day, riding on a full blown motocross track on ya powerful motocross machine, with sweat, mud, dirt sticking on ya face, sweaty neck, etc nothing beat riding under the cooling condition when the sun is setting. with the day almost ending and fullfilled ride the whole day, you are relieve, de-stress, tired, but happy that ya had a wonderful and enjoyable riding today with ya mates.

where to view nice sunset?

for those who like beautiful scenery, like sunset, i would suggest Labrador Park (off pasir panjang road). this photo were taken during one sunday evening when i'm just at the correct timing, immediately, took out my idiot digicam and snap some pic.
Labrador Park is place for family outing, picnic, bbq, fishing etc.
ok, less talking, just enjoy the serenity of the pic.

How to change fork oil and fork seal (46mm KYB cartridge fork)

photo taken from the web

it is pretty straight foward to strip the fork, job will be easier if you got a air wrench.

This cartridge fork is similar to many other bike with USD fork, like the YZ125, DT200WR, this fork is easier to work with as compare to the Showa twin chambers fork, which it’s slightly more complicated, but still, no rocket science, for a start, we will kick off with this KYB cartridge fork.
with the fork out of triple clamp, before you start any work, back out all compression and rebound clicker, count them and make a note.
1. loosen fork cap, loosen the jam nut and fork cap can be taken out, and you can remove at this juncture (the cap), and collapse the fork tube
(with the fork collapse, there’s a rebound rod in there, remove that out and keep somewhere safe as it is soft)

2. pour out all the fork oil into a container, you may want to pump the rod to help to remove the fluid faster

3. with the air wrench, and correct size allen (a quality type), spin out the base valve out from under the fork leg, base valve should spin out relatively easy

4. with the base valve out, the entire cartridge can be pull out of the fork tube

5. now, you can start to split the fork tube

6. pry open the duct cover with a large screw driver

7. use a small screw driver to remove the clip inside

8. with the clip remove, hold the fork tube, 1 hand on the chrome part, 1 hand on the other fork tube, with a swift jerk action, pull apart the fork tube

9. from here, you can seethe seal, 2nos teflon coated bushing, remove them

10. with the correct order, slip the duct cover down the chrome tube, follow by clip, seal (before it can cut the seal), the outer bushing, and lastly the inner bushing

11. slip the chrome tube into the other fork leg, let the inner bushing in and then the outer bushing, use a fork seal rammer to knock it lightly into the fork tube, it should seat it easily

12. now, use the fork seal rammer and seat the seal in snugly (not to much strength), just make sure it seat down squarely

13. put back the clip, and duct cover (you can use the seal rammer)

14. now you are done, with seal replacement

15. collaspe the fork tube, make sure the fork tube are sliding in and out effortlessly

16. then slid back in the cartridge, and use ya hand to screw back the base valve slowly, when it is hadn tight, use the air wrench to tighten it, and then a torque wrench to it suggested torque number

17. now, pour in ya favourite fork oil and bleed it properly (this is important)
(replace the rebound rod after it is bleeded)

18. with the correct oil height, slip in the fork spring and install the fork cap (remember to secure the jam nut against the fork cap)

19. set all clickers back to original setting and you are ready to go.

hope this helps.

one of my fav pic with my wife

was flipping through some old photograph yesterday and found this pic, it was nicely taken by a good friend of mine while we were doing some exploration in the perimeter area of singapore, it was sometimes back in 2001 if my memory doesn't failed me.

this was a time when both my kids was not born yet, and both of us are realy enjoying going to alot of places exploring. with 2 kids now, we are really tie up and can't really go back to the times like what we have been doing when it is just the both of us.

with kids or no kids, there are the good and bad when you look at it from both ends, ultimately, myself and my wife have not regretted our choice, and we are so glad that my 10 month old daughter are able to crawl around the house and started to learn to grab hold of something and standing up without any assistance.

but we will be back, when both my kids are old enough, and perhap when we are older, the memory will be sweeter.

how to fish for halfbeak

the above black barred halfbeak is a seasonal fish, it can be found commonly in sg water during its season, they often travel in big school, sometimes small groups, or some may stray away. from this picture, the largest i have caught is about 1feet or 12" in length including the "beak".
if you look carefully at the mouth, "halfbeak" show you that the fish have a shorter beak on top and a much longer beak below. the halfbeak season is from Jan - Mar.

this is a easy fish to target, with polarised sunglass, under a good sunlight, you can actually see it swimming on the water surface. i learnt this valuable trick from my fishing mate, Mr Desmond Tan, aka DesT, a experienced surface fisher hunter with his whippy noodle rod.

now, come to the rig setup for targetting the HB. from your main line, link up a 4-6lbs leader line about 2feet long, with a small tamban hook size at the terminal. and you will need a float, the float location will be at the junction where the main line "meet" the leader line. now the rig is ready for action.

walk around the jetty, eg labrador park, St john island, etc are good place to hunt for them. when you "see" them, cast it infront of them, and reel it in slowly. let the fish "see" your bait (you can use slice prawn meat or halfbeak meat, which really works wonder!) when you see the fish dart toward ya bait, pause for a moment. within a few seconds, tighten the line and strike, you would have had a solid hook up. sometimes, you can actually see halfbeak doing water surface ballet dancing.

with a good day, you can easily bring up 20-30 pieces alone. and with the same set up, you can target todak as well, a much bigger water surface fish. i hope with this simple explaination, you will be able to get your first halfbeak.

special thanks to Mr DesT

how to do a proper chain slack for your KTM dirt bike

would just like to share a little idea here.as most of the rider here are brough up riding jap bike, most would just use the rule of thumb of "3 fingers" to do a quick check whether the chain slack is in order.but to use this measurement on the ktm bike, would damage the chain, sprockets and even the rear hub, etcto properly adjust the chain slack on a ktm, please follow the steps below
1. remove the rear shock (take you a couple of mins)
2. use a car jack or some kind of wooden block and put it under the rear wheel
3. now, lift up the rear wheel till the swingarm is parallel to the ground or in horizontal position
4. at this position, the chain is at its tightest
5. from here, loosen the chain and adjust it to have approximately 10mm
6. 15mm of slack - now, tighten up the chain block and the rear axle nut and ya are done!when the rear shock is back in position, the chain will look "more" slack than the chain on ya normal jap bike, but please do not panic, this is correct.

motocross bike race sag setting up guide, by yours truly

local scenrio, many dirt bikers, after buying a bike, would without doing some basic setting up, like suspension, gear levers, jetting, etc have already bring the bike out for a ride, and would start to complaint on some area when the bike handling is really out of the way. so for a start, i guess with my basic knowledge of suspension, to post something up here for you.

How to do proper race sag set up for ya dirt bike?

This setting up of race sag procedure that follows will give ya a ballpark figure of a recommeded starting point for any suspension tuning. My article will guide you to the proper race sag adjustment for your weight. Fine tuning of damping adjustments will comes later. The first step toward determining proper suspension adjustment is to set the rear spring preload so the proper race sag is achieved.

1. Firstly, load the whole bike onto a bike stand, with both wheel off the ground, allowing the rear wheel to be fully extended

2. now, use a maker pen and mark somewhere vertically above the centre of the chain adjuster block as your reference point for measurement

3. use a measurement tape and take the reading, eg 615mm

4. for next measurement, unload the bike from the stand, with a fully dress up rider (with helmet, boots on, etc), standing with both feet on the peg, press down the rear fender gently and let it rebound on its own, do not bounce! Now, with reference to the measurement marking, take down this reading, eg 510mm

5. so your race sag is 615mm – 510 = 105mm

6. as a ball park figure, for most Japanese mx bike, recommendation of race sag to start off at 100mm, and for KTM, 105mm – 110mm

7. so with race sag at 105mm, you will need to increase preload by cranking on the top shock collar, when the sag with the rider on the bike read 515mm, you achieve the recommended race sag at 100mm.

With your race sag properly setup, you will be able to fine tune your damping setting from here, and by now, your bike should be handling much better than before, so go out and feel it!

a nice photo of my boy and ger

before u look at this harmony photo of both my boy and ger, let me tell u a story. my boy was alittle "buay song" when his little mei mei was born. however, this is part and parcel of life so i told my wife, we should try to bring them close together.
in the early stage, the bro would snatch away the toy when his little mei mei was playing, and literally snatch them all away, letting the mei mei crying helplessly without any toy to tinker with. but slowly, things are changing, the big bro would pass her some toys to keep his little mei mei occupy.
when times i was busy at home alone, with 2 littles one, i'm really tied up. the boy would say he wanna "pang sai" (poo), while the ger would be crying for milk.
nowaday, the bro is more caring to his little mei mei, as when he snatch away the toy again, i would say, since you don't like ya mei mei, papa will give mei mei away to the ah neh downstair, he would immeidately scream and say NO!!!
just this morning, while i was busy feeding the ger, suddenly remembered i need to do something urgently, just in time, her bro just woke up and walk into the room, so i say, "can u help papa to hold mei mei milk bottle? papa need to do something urgently"
immediately, he climb up the bed like a monkey and help to hold the milk bottle, while i quickly rush to the kitchen and clear up something job.
when i'm back, i see this wonderful scene and quickly snap a shot.
i'm glad the bro are learning to care about his little mei mei.

my daughter is coming to her 10th month tomorrow! she has begun to learn to crawl just a couples of weeks ago, just more abit more practise, she will be able to strengthen her arm, and she has been trying to stand up on her feet by holding onto something. the picture showing she grabbing onto the window grill.

and now, my son, coming to 2years and 10mth, is "learning" to be like a monkey, which he is born in the year of MONKEY, climbing all over the place, the metal grill door, window grill, trying to so all sort of funny stun and end up doing a face plant and come running to his daddy or mummy crying. but i guess this is part of growing just have to let them go thru the process and learning it (under supervision of coz), and not too protective over them. ultimately, they will have to grow up 1 day taking care of themselves.

a saturday evening trip to botak jones

had told my wife about the nice food at 1 of the botak jones outlet, and ever since, she have been pestering me when i wanna bring her to try the food there.
so yesterday, after running some errants, i decided to bring her to 1 of the BJ outlet in ang mo kio, we reached there about 7pm.

and the kopi shop was packed, and from 1 look of it, almost 90% of the patron sitting there eating, are BJ customers. sp we waited awhile before we could grab hold of a seat when a group of people left.

looking at the long Q infront the BK store, my wife give up the idea of ordering from them, and instead, we order satay. while waiting for our food, we observe the rest of the other stall, like the mee stall, and chap chai stall, from the pic, ya can see the big difference in business. everyone come here for BJ food.
and at the same time, you see quite a few dedicated BJ part time helpers, taking orders, sending food, collecting dishes. i guess to bring my wife again, i will need to come at the off peak period. wat i can say is, Mr Jones has done well.

1 of my riding mate

straight to the point, i know this friend of mine, from riding dirt bike

just a few month back, he had a bad crash into a tree and broke his tight bone, near to the hip area, x-ray shown it was badly crushed...

just saw his blog and know that pain is coming back recently, and another bad news is, he had used up his 14 day MC, 60 day hospitalisation and was working from home for the past few weeks. now that the doc wanted him to have another ops to ease the pain and oso to expedite the recovery as recent x-ray show that the joint between thigh bone and hip is totally no sign of recovery.

he mentioned that he may have to prepare for the very worst scenerio as his coy may ask him to leave...

come to think of it, i had my fair share of broken bone, i broke my collar bone a few years ago, landing head down, over the handlebar from a jump. but luckily for my friend, he is still single and not much of committment and his family is supportive of him during this period of time.

i have once told him, whether he wanna come back riding anot, it is his own choice, we will respect him, we will still be friend.

just wanna say, all the best to him and take care man, stay positive!! just give me a beep if u need any helping hand.

“This guy in red with his wife and 3 kids snatches a round table which apparently a disable old man was trying to "wheel himself " on to the round table before this ULGY FAMILY ARRIVED.The husband in red polo tee, then shouted at the wife and Kids... ' JUST SIT DOWN ' in a bid to race against the handicap man who who was trying to position himself to the round table. The Red Polo Tee man and his beautiful wife and kids managed to overcome by "CHOPE-ING" the table.Poor Handicap man told his daugthers ( when they cam eback with food) to move to another table , saying in Hokkien that, they( the ulgy family) have taken over the table. The ulgy family was totally not shameful about their acts in public and the kids wailed " Daddy, Daddy we won !!!!"The dad then said, " next time i ask u to sit you sit " The wife then said " You all stay here, I go and get the free coffee now...how IKEA cards did u bring honey ??? if this is how a man gonna teach his children, we will have more such singaporean in times to come...

some photo of my kids

my daughter

my boy

my son, this pic was taken during the ultrascan in 1 of the monthly checkup at hospital.

my aircon down...

for the past few nights, it is either too hot/humid, or rainy and cold.

just happen that my aircon is not working properly, perhap due to aging, problems start to act up.

so contacted my regular aircon guy to take a look, found out that the cooling coil is choked and need to be cleaned. so after a couples of hour of distmantling, spraying of chemical into the coil, seeing all the dirt being purge out of the coil, you can really see the dirty/stained coil become so clean and shiny, just like a new coil.

when everything was assembled and back in place. cool, you can really feel more cooling air flowing out.

for those of u guys who need aircon repair or serivicng in your home, this aircon guy is good, very reliable, he has been in this trade for more than 30years.

9th aug, fishing

got the green light to go fishing on 9th aug, and i decided to go for a quick 3hrs fishing at fisherman pond.

reach the pond around 1.15pm, pond owner is a fellow kaki, nice guy, come here to support him.
find a spot, settle down, rig up and start fishing. and today, my target fish is kim jio (promfret)
15min pass, and happen to see another mate with his boy. his boy is also a pretty gd fisherman. it is always nice to see father and son doing healthy sport they like.
spoke to him and happen to know tat todat bite rate is not as gd, perhap due to tis morning heavy downpour.
it was pretty quiet for all anglers at the pond, even though after 1 net of fish is release, it is still quiet.
about an hour and half have pass, finally saw my float went down fast, tighten up the line and strike, i got my 1st promfret (target met)
so rebait and cast, after parking my rod in the holder, i walk away for a quick drink
and my friend's son call me, say my float is gone! quickly, pick up and rod and strike, but... miss... argghh...
time really flies, 3hrs is up, and i decided to pack up. told the pond owner tat i'm leaving for dinner and later back to collect the fish, he told me its fine to fish awhile longer (kudos to him) but i can't, coz my wife is hungry..
so, brough my wife to a nearby cafe to have a enjoyable dinner environment, the sambal fried rice i order and the mee goreng my wife is having, is very nice.
so, end of the fishing trip for the day, time to pick up my fish and my kids

overall feel, this fisherman village pond is a nice place to go, pond owner is a nice guy, but just heard that their lease is not being renew, so will only operate till end of this month..

my fav past time

time now is 11;44pm, gonna pig soon.

just let me post a couple of pic

i got only 2 fav past times on weekend, but now, is cutting down due to family committment.

1 is riding off road with my mates
2 is fishing
too tired to type any story now, time to sleep...

day before NDP

as usual for the past many donkey years, i have never try to "get" my hand on any NDP ticket to join in the fun, crowds, the jam pack atmosphere, etc myself do not like to crowd in all this big function or events.

so, should be staying at home, and watch the TV instead, be a full time "couch potato" when the parade start in late afternoon.

and my plan in the day time, for tomorrow, will be bringing my wife to a pond for a short fishing session, thinking to bring home some fishes for dinner, species targetted like kim chio (golden promfret), ang kuey (red chicken they call it) etc

yesterday evening, have spoke to my wife about starting this blogging stuff and she is pretty amaze by "how" i come about starting this stuff. also after some discussion, we feel it will be good if we can have some service provider contact in here, in order to be more comprehensive and helpful, instead of only helping ppl to sell used stuff.

so for a start, let me go thru a list of item which i can think of, and then to start to list them down in here, and of coz, all this service provider i have used before will be reliable and trustworthy. for eg, you can pass me your regular car mechanic contact to me so that i can post up in here etc..

coming to 12noon already, stomach hungry liao, going off for lunch soon.. see ya later.

the reason for this setting up this blog

i do not blog at all, this is the 1st time i try blogging. mainly because of 3 reasons

1. the uncle i work with
2. the reason i name this "the 2nd hand shop"
3. learn to do new stuff online

1. i had lunch with my colleague, this 50 odds uncle, and his contractor. when i join them, they were toking about blogging. then they ask if i blog, i say no, and i do not know how to do it. and they ask me how old. then they say, with my age, i should have no problem to pick up and learn new thing when both of them are already 50+. so they gave me this google + blog blah blah blah and so here i am.

2. with referene to this morning, my mate challange me to sell his stuff online, i think here could be a good place to start with (hopefully), as i still dunno know much about ebay, yahoo auction and such. so i name my blog here as "the 2nd hand shop". anyone who is interested to let me TRY and sell ya stuff can kindly let me know.

3. i'm a IT idiot, ask me pa game, surf net, i still ok, but if to do web design, i think too cheem for me, also, what is HTML, i dunno, etc . so guess i should start off something simple, like this.

so, lets see how it goes from here, pls feel free to give me ya comments.

the challange

just this morning at 7am+, when i was having my breakfast at 1 of the kopi diam along balestier, i got a sms from a mate. he ask if i will take up the challange to help him sell some stuff online. with my limited internet knowledge, i guess it would be interesting to do it, so i took it up.

just hope i do not create a fool out of myself.
